Aparna Dasgupta, also known as Aparna Sen, is an Indian actress, film director, screenwriter, and journalist who works in Bengali and Hindi cinema. She has received several accolades, including nine National Film Awards (India), six Filmfare Awards East, thirteen Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, and other awards. She was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1987 for her contributions to Indian cinema.

Early Life and Education
Aparna Dasgupta was born on October 25, 1945, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, into a Bengali Baidya family. Her family came to Kolkata from East Bengal. Her father, Chidananda Dasgupta, was an Indian filmmaker, film critic, and film historian, and her mother, Supriya Dasgupta, was a costume designer who earned the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for Chidananda's directorial venture Amodini (1995) at the age of 73. Her maternal grandfather, Brahmananda Dasgupta, was the brother of poet Jibanananda Das.
Aparna Dasgupta spent her childhood in Hazaribagh and Kolkata. She attended South Point School and Modern High School for Girls in Kolkata. Later, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Presidency University, Kolkata, but did not complete her degree.
